UFC News: Dan Henderson Rips Jon Jones on Twitter for DWI Charge

Former Strikeforce and PRIDE champion Dan Henderson was supposed to challenge UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones for his first taste of UFC gold back in September.

While a last-minute training injury prevented that from happening, that doesn’t mean “Hendo” doesn’t still have Jones in his crosshairs.

On New Year’s Eve, the 42-year-old took a shot at Jones for an arrest that happened this past summer.

“Wishin everyone a Happy New year!! Be safe! No drinking and driving and hitting telephone poles”

Henderson is referencing a May 19 incident where Jones crashed his brand new Bentley Continental GT into a telephone pole. Jones pled guilty to driving while intoxicated in June.

The Team Quest gym co-founder is riding a four-fight win streak, three of which came by way of knockout, while the only decision victory was the 2011 “Fight of the Year” against former UFC 205-pound title holder Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

The former Olympic-level wrestler opted to wait on the sidelines until he got his opportunity against Jones, though his knee injury prevented that from happening as planned.

Henderson is scheduled to meet Lyoto Machida at UFC 157 next month in a bout that could very well be an unofficial title eliminator.

However, UFC president Dana White told various media outlets at the UFC 155 post-fight media presser that Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier could meet Jones next if he decides to drop down to 205-pounds.

Of course, that’s assuming Jones gets through a long-time friend and training partner of Henderson, Chael Sonnen, in April.

Is Henderson using trash talk to raise his stock in the UFC’s top heavy 205-pound division or was he simply making a light-hearted joke at Jones’ expense?
