Super Bowl XLVIII: How the Weather May Impact the Game

Ever since they announced that Super Bowl XLVIII would be in New York everyone has made a big to do about this being a “Cold Weather” Super Bowl.  For some reason fans and media alike feel as though a little bad weather will majorly affect the outcome of this game.  Like if these guys don’t play in Arizona, Florida, or California where the weather is perfect that they won’t be able to perform.

What a lot of people don’t understand is that weather hot or cold will play a factor in the game and sometimes hot and humid weather play more of a factor than cold weather.

On Sunday the weather forecast in New York calls for the high to be around 50 with a chance of rain.  Now the game will be held later in the day so I don’t anticipate it being 50 degrees at kick off.  Let’s just say it’s around 30 degrees and raining at kickoff.  These men have been playing football for the majority of their lives; I guarantee this isn’t the first cold game they will play.  Especially guys like Peyton Manning probably have a set routine for cold weather games.

A lot of people seem to think that it will affect the offenses and how affective they are.  They talk about how the quarterbacks won’t be able to throw and the receivers won’t be able to catch.  Even if that was true both of these teams are more than capable of moving the ball on the ground.

Marshawn Lynch has proved himself as one of the top running backs in the league and Russell Wilson has the ability to hurt you with his legs as well.  Denver has also proved that they can run the ball as well.  Knowshon Moreno has been the surprise of the season and my vote for fantasy player of the year.  If the teams do indeed have to turn to the running game I am confident that they will have no problem moving the ball and giving as a good show.

I argue that hot weather games are actually harder to prepare for.  Especially if you’re in a cold city like Denver or Seattle.  Let’s say the Super Bowl was held in Tampa rather than New York and the conditions were 90 degrees and the humidity was to the ruff.

Now you have to worry about dehydration, cramps, heat exhaustion, trust me friends take if from a former football player hot games can be tough as well.

I honestly don’t think that the weather will affect these men come Sunday.  They have fought and prepared for this moment for their whole life and season.  They won’t let a little cold weather or rain prevent them from reaching their ultimate goal which is winning a Super Bowl.  Prepare for a show my friends, weather can’t stop greatness it will only make it more memorable.
