Big XII Week 15 Review

While the Big XII does not have a championship game, this past weekend was just as important. The first game of the day, Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State, set the tone, as if the Cowboys won, they would have clinched the conference title. However, they lost to the Sooners, opening the door for the winner of the Texas-Baylor game to win the title. Eventually, the Bears came out victorious.

Oklahoma- 33 vs. Oklahoma State- 24

Like every other rivalry game in college football this season, this game was back and forth and went right down to the wire. Through the first three quarters, each team scored equal points, keeping it tied all the way to the fourth quarter.

Oklahoma struck first in the quarter with a field goal. However, State answered with a touchdown as Desmond Roland, who rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns on the day, scored from one yard out with less than two minutes left in the game. So many could have assumed from there that they would pull out the win and the conference title. However, it was not over.

The Sooners drove down the field in the final minutes to score the game winning touchdown, as Blake Bell connected with Jalen Saunders in the back of the endzone for a 7-yard touchdown with 19 seconds left.

Oklahoma State tried to score on their last play by running a bunch of laterals, however, they made one too many and tossed the ball away, allowing the Sooners to recover and score on the return with no time on the clock.

Texas- 10 vs. Baylor- 30

With the Big XII title officially on the line, both teams came out determined, playing to a 3-3 tie at halftime.  However, once the second half started, Baylor took over.

In the third quarter, the Bears came out firing. Bryce Petty connected with Antwan Goodley for an 11-yard touchdown early in the quarter to put the Bears ahead. Baylor would go on to add 10 more point in the quarter.

Baylor didn’t exactly force Texas to pass often, as Malcolm Brown rushed for 131 yards in the game, averaging over five yards per carry, but as they started to pull away, the Longhorns abandoned what was working and put the ball in Case McCoy’s hands, which did not turn out well. McCoy finished the game 12 of 34 for 51 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Baylor’s victory secured the championship and an automatic BCS bid, matching them up against Central Florida in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
