College Football: Biggest Impact Freshman In The ACC

The Atlantic Coast Conference produced four top-25 recruitment classes in 2014 as no less than eight five-star recruits decided to ply their trade with or against current national champions Florida State.

With that in mind,  we can expect to see a number of Freshman burst onto the scene during the upcoming season.  Let’s take a look at who they might be.

Running Back, Dalvin Cook, Florida Sate

With the loss of Devonta Freeman and James Wilder Jr,  Cook’s arrival could not have been more timely.  Former safety Karlos Williams will undoubtedly be the starter,  but Cook will see plenty of action.  A slippery back who can cause a lot of damage in the open field,  he and Williams will provide an exhilarating one-two punch.

Cornerback, Mackensie Alexander, Clemson

A redshirted freshman,  Alexander was the jewel in Clemson’s 2013 recruiting class but took a redshirt season after suffering an injury last summer.  At 5’11” he has good size as well as being lightening quick.  Dabo Swinney complimented Alexander on a daily basis over the spring so watch out for big plays on defense and possibly in the punt return game also.

Wide Receiver, Travis Rudolph, Florida State

A star in Kelvin Benjamin leaves for the NFL and the next man up walks right through the door.  Rudolph,  according to Rivals.com,  was the 11th best high school recruit in the nation which saw him top the wide receiver and state of Florida rankings.  From Alabama to Oregon,  everybody wanted Rudolph on their side so expect big things when September rolls around.

Defensive End, Chad Thomas, Miami

Miami landed Rivals.com’s second-ranked defensive end and he is expected to make an impact from the off whether it be as a rotational player or a starter.  His athleticism and explosiveness qualities are incredible and he is almost impossible to block when he gets in the groove.  With a poor pass rush last season,  the ‘Canes can expect much better things this time around.

Running Back, Elijah Hood, North Carolina

T.J. Logan took over the starting job in North Carolina half way through last season and did not disappoint with over 500 rushing yards and four touchdowns.  However,  Hood will immediately become the most naturally gifted back on the roster and will complement Logan beautifully as they both excel in different areas.  Expect to see Hood receive a lot of short-yardage carries initially but expand his role as he builds confidence in the system.
