Tulane will take on LA-Lafayette in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on Saturday in the Louisiana Superdome.
After opening the season 6-2 Tulane lost three of the last four games as they failed to break the 20-points barrier in each loss. The Green Wave’s offense was slowed after quarterback Nick Montana, son of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana, separated his shoulder in October before aggravating the injury against Rice in the last game of the season. The senior had thrown 14 touchdowns and nine interceptions over the course of the season. Wide receiver Ryan Grant is the standout piece on Tulane’s offense after he caught 70 passes for 926 yards and nine touchdowns.
This year’s bowl game will be the first for the Green Wave in over ten years when they beat Hawaii in the Hawaii Bowl.
As for LA-Lafayette, they will be looking for their third straight New Orleans Bowl victory come the weekend. The Ragin’ Cajuns lost their opening two games of the campaign as well as the final two to sandwich a run of eight straight wins. A loss to South Alabama at the beginning of the month meant a first Sun Belt title was not to be as they split the honors with Arkansas State.
Quarterback Terrence Broadway is also struggling to make the game after he suffered a broken hand against Louisiana-Monroe on November 30th. The junior signal caller had 2,276 passing yards, 19 passing touchdowns and ten interceptions as well as another eight scores on the ground in his second season as starter. Running back Alonzo Harris also gave a handily contribution with 868 yards and 13 touchdowns on 186 carries.
