Top 10 College Fantasy Football Performers of Week 1

Week one of college football has come to a close after Florida State’s dismantling of Pittsburgh. That means fantasy football is in full swing and hopefully you are all still perfect in your record! If not, no worries there is still plenty of time left. Here are the top ten fantasy performers of week one in college football.

10. Brandin Cooks, WR Oregon State – 196 yards 2 TD

Brandin Cooks started his junior year with a bang totally just under 200 yards against Eastern Washington. Look for him to be one of the more targeted receivers in the country this season and a good player to have on your roster.

9. Paul Richardson, WR Colorado – 208 yards 2 TD

Richardson had the most receiving yards in the country this week pairing with two touchdowns. In standard leagues he was the best wide out in fantasy football in week one.

8. Baker Mayfield, QB TTU – 413 yards 4 TD, 16 yards 1 TD rushing

The walk on true freshman showed the world what he could do under new head coach Kliff Kingsbury, and it makes him one of the hot waiver claims this week. 400 yards and five total touchdowns is nothing to sleep on, especially when Mayfield did most of it in the second half.

7. Jamarcus Nelson, WR UAB – 199 yards 2 TD, KO return TD

In some leagues, Nelson was the top player this week because of his kickoff return for a touchdown, but even without that he was just under 200 yards and two touchdowns, making him one of the best receivers in week one.

6. Charles Ross, RB Rice – 107 yards 2 TD, 24 yards TD receiving

Ross had a breakout game against Texas A&M’s porous defense, but it is still a ranked team. Ross had three touchdowns and totaled over 130 yards. Look for him to be the focal point of the Owls offense going forward.

5. Derek Carr, QB Fresno State - 470 yards 5 TD

Derek Carr had the most yards and the most touchdowns at the quarterback position this week, but with one interception he was not “perfect”. Carr will likely do this week in and week out, and should be a starter in your fantasy league.

4. Tajh Boyd, QB Clemson - 270 yards 3 TD, 42 yards 2 TD rushing

Tajh Boyd did it all in Clemson’s win against Georgia on Saturday night. Throwing for three touchdowns and running for two earns him number four on the top fantasy players of week one. Some leagues award bonus points if a player plays “top competition”, so Boyd may have been the best in your league.

3. Shane Carden, QB ECU – 447 yards 5 TD

Carden had the most lucrative stats at the quarterback position this week, and the only thing that separated him from Carr was no turnovers. Carden was a force in the air and will continue to be for the Pirates this season.

2. C.J. Brown, QB Maryland - 281 3 TD, 105 2 TD rushing

Brown just missed being the number one fantasy player this week, but what he did for the Terrapins was no joke. This could be a recurring theme for Brown if he keeps his confidence high. Might be worth a roster spot if he is available.

1. David Ash, QB Texas – 343 yards 4 TD, 91 yards 1 TD rushing

It will not be often that Ash will be on this list, let alone at the top. But this week David Ash is the fantasy football player of the week. With an outstanding line passing and throwing the football, Ash accrued anywhere from 40-50 fantasy points depending on your scoring system.

Honorable Mention: Jameis Winston, QB FSU, Angel Santiago, QB Army, Keith Wenning, QB Ball St, Teddy Bridgewater, QB Louisville, Rakeem Cato, QB Marshall, Tevin Coleman, RB Indiana, Bishop Sankey, RB Washington, Todd Gurley, RB Georgia, Leonte Carroo, WR Rutgers, Jared Abbrederis, WR Wisconsin, Davante Adams, WR Fresno State, Nick O’Leary, TE FSU, Will Oliver, K Colorado, Georgia Tech DST.
