15 Year Old Lydia Ko Wins on the LPGA

Look Out Women’s Golf!  Another talented lady South Korean golfer has arrived.

15 year old Lydia Ko was born in South Korea. Her parents moved to New Zealand and found a place near a golf course so Lydia could practice. Evidently the plan has worked. Ms. Ko has set a ton of records in 2012.

She was the youngest person to ever win a professional golf tournament when she won the Women’s NSW Open on the Asian Ladies Professional Golf Tour in January in New Zealand.

This week she bested a strong field at the CN Canadian Women’s Open by three shots and became the youngest person ever to win on the LPGA. In between she won the U. S. Women’s Amateur at The Country Club in Cleveland in early August.

She also captured the low amateur honors with a T-38 in the U. S. Women’s Open at Black Wolf Run in Kohler, Wisconsin at the beginning of July. Ko is the No. 1 ranked women’s amateur golfer in the world and her only defeat this summer was a loss in the semi-finals of the U. S. Girl’s Junior.

Does anyone else find that scary?  The big girls can’t beat her but the younger girls can.

Don’t look for her anytime soon on the LPGA Tour, however.  Remember Lydia is only 15.  The LPGA does not allow membership for girls under the age of 18. Lydia wants to finish high school and attend Stanford before she turns professional.

She does admit it is hard to turn down the $300,000 first prize that the CN Canadian Women’s Open would have paid but she realizes that she will have ample time to win more.

The line for future sponsors forms at the left.
