Anna Nordqvist won her second title of the 2014 LPGA Tour season at the Kia Classic and is just a few points behind Karrie Webb in the season-long Race to the CME Globe.
This was the fourth career win for the 26-year-old Nordqvist and her second win in a little over one month. She won the Honda LPGA Thailand at the end of February over world No. 1, Inbee Park.
Her five-under par 67 in the final round on Sunday was her second consecutive 67 over the beautiful Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad, California.
Nordqvist was one of the leading performers on the European Team that soundly defeated Team USA in the Solheim Cup last year.
Her first win on tour came in a major championship at the 2009 McDonalds LPGA Championship. Later that same year she won the final event of the year at the LPGA Tour Championship.
This is her sixth full year on the LPGA Tour and with $500,000 in earnings is second on the LPGA Tour money list. The win moves her to No. 10 on the Rolex Rankings.
Nordqvist’s 13-under par total was just one shot better than Lizette Salas, who finished alone in the runner-up position. Salas had begun the final round tied with Christie Kerr for the 54-hole lead, but her two-under par 70 was not quite good enough to surpass Nordqvist.
Lexi Thompson fired a final round four-under par 68 to finish solo third and collect $113,000.
Christie Kerr fell from the top spot with a one-over par 73 on Sunday and finished fourth.
Inbee Park, Se Ri Pak, Eun-Hee Ji and Stacy Lewis finished tied for sixth at eight-under par.
The women’s tour now moves up the road to Rancho Mirage for the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the first major tournament of the year.
