Ben Crane Leads at FedEx St. Jude Classic

Severe weather in the Memphis area forced a stoppage of play on Thursday. The morning wave all completed their rounds, but several players have yet to finish their second nine holes.

Ben Crane has been missing from leaderboards for some time but posted a seven-under-par 63 to hold the top spot.

Crane is best known for his humorous golf video serier on youtube.co. He is also the leader of the legendary “Golf Boys” along with Bubba Watson, Hunter Mahan and Rickie Fowler.

He is a four-time winner on the tour and his last win came at the 2011 McGladrey Classic.  Crane also won two events on the Web.com Tour early in his professional career and has one win on the Asian Tour.

Peter Malnati is two shots behind Crane at five-under-par and tied with Billy Horschel, who still has two holes remaining to complete his first round.

Five veterans, Joe Durant, Stuart Appleby, Retief Goosen, Zach Johnson and Jason Bohn are at four-under-par, but Appleby, Johnson and Bohn all holes left to play to complete their rounds.

Phil Mickelson, who has been filling up media headlines this week, was able to finish his round and is one more shot back at three-under-par. He is still looking for his first top-10 finish this year and is trying to find some form before next week’s U.S. Open.

Tied with Mickelson and in the clubhouse at three-under-par are, Freddie Jacobson, Brooks Koepka, Troy Merritt, Hudson Swofford, Gonzalo Fernandez-Costano and Luke Gutherie. J.J. Henry, Davis Love, Chesson Hadley, Ryan Palmer, Kevin Kisner, Austin Cook and amateur Scottie Sheffler are also at three-under-par, but have holes yet to play to complete their rounds.

Play will resume early Friday morning and the second round will begin immediately upon completion of the first round.
