The Champions Tour is starting a very important two week period with consecutive major championships.
The Regions Tradition will be held this week at Shoal Creek in Birmingham, AL and the Senior PGA Championship will be played next week in Benton Harbor, MI.
David Frost won the 2013 Regions Tradition, when he edged Fred Couples by a single stroke.
Bernhard Langer is the hottest player on the Champions Tour. He finished second to Kenny Perry last year in the Charles Schwab Cup, but leads this season.
In his seven starts this year, Langer has not finished outside the top-10. He has two wins, three runners-up and one third-place finish. His amazing run of consistency includes 17 consecutive top-10 finishes dating back to last season.
Couples, Jay Haas, Colin Montgomerie and Michael Allen round out the top five in the Charles Schwab Cup points standings.
This is the 26th year for The Tradition and it is the first of five major championships held on the Champions Tour annually.
Don Beis won the inaugural Regions Tradition when it was held in Scottsdale, AZ in 1989. Jack Nicklaus won this tournament four times. Tom Lehman, Gil Morgan and Fred Funk each won it twice.
The Tradition was held in Arizona until 2003. It moved to Oregon for eight years, before settling in Alabama since 2011.
Jack Ncklaus designed Shoal Creek in 1977. It plays to 7,234 yards with a par of 72.
Golf Channel will carry the event live on Thursday and Friday, May 15-16, 11:30-1:30 PM ET. Weekend coverage will be 2:00-4:00 PM ET on Saturday and Sunday May 17-18.
