The Hippos, Rhinos, and Crocs paid very little attention to the golf being played last week on the Leopard Creek Country Club in the Alfred Dunhill Championship on the southern edge of Kruger National Park in South Africa.
Leopard Creek offers some phenomenal views and is like playing golf in a zoo. The natural wild life is protected in the gigantic sanctuary.
Kruger National Park stretches over 200 miles from north to south and 40 miles east to west. It covers nearly 8,000 square miles and is one of the largest game reserves in Africa.
Amid this beautiful setting Charl Schwartzel picked up his second win in as many weeks by firing a final round 69 on Sunday which got him to 24-under par for the week. He finished 12 shots clear of runner-up Kristoffer Broberg.
Schwartzel is definitely the hottest golfer on the planet right now. He won by 11 shots last week over Bubba Watson in the Thailand Golf Championship.
He is making up for his lack of wins since his birdie barrage over the final four holes in the 2011 Masters that earned him a Green Jacket.
He had a somewhat disappointing year on the PGA Tour in 2012 with only two top-10 finishes in 16 events. He did earn $1.1 million and finished No. 90 in the FedEx Cup standings. He is currently at No. 14 on the Official World Golf Rankings.
Schwartzel is only 28-years-old, a native of South Africa and this is his eighth European Tour win. In addition he has six wins on the Sunshine Tour.
This was the second tournament of the 2014 European Tour season and Schwartzel’s win moves him into the top spot on the Race to Dubai.
Scott Jamieson is in the second spot in the Race to Dubai and is off to a fast start on the European Tour. He won last week at the Nelson Mandela Championship in Durban, South Africa and finished T-3 at Leopard Creek this week.
