Charley Hoffman Wins Final PGA Tour Event of 2014 The OHL Classic at Mayakoba

Even though Charley Hoffman’s drive came to rest at the base of a tree in the left rough on the 72nd hole on Sunday, he took his medicine, made a bogey and still won the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.

It was his third career PGA Tour victory and first since the 2010 Deutsche Bank Championship.

Hoffman began the day three shots behind the leader, Jason Bohn, but got off to a fast start with four birdies in a five hole stretch on the front nine for a four-under-par 32 that put him in the mix for the win.

He added two more birdies on the back nine to hold a one-shot lead over Shawn Stefani standing on the tee at No. 18. An errant drive forced him to chip out sideways and back to the fairway. He pulled his iron shot and faced a long putt for par. He ran the first putt to tap-in range and finished with a bogey.

Lucky for him, Stefani’s drive at the last hole also found trouble in a deep fairway bunker. He could not fly the ball all the way to the green and his chip shot came up woefully short. His subsequent bogey left him one shot behind the winner.

It’s not easy to close out a round and win on the PGA Tour.

The third round leader, Bohn was never a factor on Sunday. He struggled to a three-over –par 74 and fell to T-7.

This is the final event on the PGA Tour’s 2014-15 wrap-around season. The tour will now take the balance of November and all of December off before returning for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii after the New Year.

Tiger Woods will host the Hero World Challenge at Isleworth December 4-7 and Greg Norman holds his Franklin Templeton Shootout December 11-13 in Naples, but neither of these is an official PGA Tour event.
