The Back 9 Report covered a variety of topics in the Par-5 News on their weekly radio show.
Fred Couples addressed the assembled media at the Charles Schwab Championship at Desert Mountain in Arizona last week and said everyone should just "chill out" on the Ryder Cup issue.
Couples said,
"I don't think anyone should panic. I don't think we need a 'task force.’ I don't think we need the PGA of America straining about this. What I really think they need is to get players that have been on a lot of these teams to get a feel for what kind of captain they need."
Couples has been the winning captain on the past three U.S. Presidents Cup teams and is rumored to be on the short list to be the next U.S. Team Ryder Cup Captain in 2016.
Dustin Johnson has had some extra time on his hands the past couple of months and has filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia claiming he was the victim of theft and extortion from the law firm of Morris Hardwick and Schneider, an Atlanta based law firm.
Johnson claims that the firm’s partners used their position as “trusted advisors” to steal $3 million from him to help cover $30 million in shortfalls in the firm’s accounts.
Johnson who has taken a leave of absence from the PGA Tour is also awaiting the birth of his first child with fiancé’, Paulina Gretsky.
Gary Player celebrated his 79th birthday last week and is still one of the fittest and most outspoken men on the face of the earth.
He thinks Tiger Woods would have won 24 major championships by now, if he would not have changed the swing that won him eight majors before he left Butch Harmon and switched to Hank Haney.
He feels he could help advise Woods and told reporters,
"But would I love to sit down with him for one hour and give him a piece of my knowledge, I can't tell you what I'd say. But then I think he could win majors."
The South African feels it is important for golf at large for Woods to return and win majors.
He added,
"So, will he come back as a champion? I really hope so because the game needs Tiger Woods."
Woods is scheduled to return to competitive golf in less than one month at the Hero World Challenge.
