Esteban Toledo Set to Defend at the Insperity Invitational

Esteban Toledo did not have a win in 290 starts on the PGA Tour, but won the 2013 Insperity Invitational in his rookie season on the Champions Tour.

It didn’t come easy, he had to survive a playoff with Mike Goodes and Gene Sauers. Toledo used the confidence from his win in Houston to collect a second title at the 2013 Montreal Championship in September and challenge Rocco Mediate for rookie of the year honors.

Toledo is off to a slow start at No. 32 in the Charles Schwab Cup in 2014, but has made all six cuts in the events he has played. He is looking forward to defending his title this week and preparing for the Tradition and the Senior PGA Championship, two Champions Tour majors that will be contested over the next three weeks.

The 81-man field is loaded this week as the top five in the Charles Schwab Cup rankings are playing. Bernhard Langer, Fred Couples, Jay Haas, Michael Allen and Duffy Waldorf will be trying to improve their position in the season-long race for the $1 million bonus.

The 54-hole Insperity Invitational is offering a $2 million purse with $300,000 going to the winner.

The tournament also offers some additional entertainment for golf fans as Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Raymond Floyd, Tony Jacklin, Tom Watson, Johnny Miller, Dan January and David Graham will compete in a legends scramble that will tee off after the final grouping on Saturday. Arnold Palmer will also be on hand, but will not play.

The Insperity Invitational can be seen on the Golf Channel Friday, May 2, 7:30-9:30 PM ET, Saturday, May 3, 6:30-9:30 PM ET and the final round will be aired on Sunday, May 4, 7:00-9:30 PM ET.
