Charley Hull just turned 18 years old and won her first Ladies European Tour title in March. She is leading the Ladies European Tour’s (LET) Order of Merit and is playing in the Kingsmill Championship this week in Williamsburg, VA.
In her last start, she finished third at the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open at the National Golf Club in Belek, Turkey on the LET.
Hull made one other appearance this season on the LPGA Tour at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, where she finished T-7, 10 shots behind the winner Lexi Thompson.
Along with Thompson and Lydia Ko, Hull is one of the younger stars in women’s golf that should contend for major titles for some time to come.
144 entrants are vying for the $195,000 first-place check at the Kingsmill Championship. The total purse available is $1.2 million.
After her win at the North Texas Shootout, Stacy Lewis moved around Lydia Ko for the No. 2 spot on the world rankings and has No. 1 Inbee Park in her sights.
Lewis is leading the Race to the CME Globe with Michelle Wie, Karrie Webb, Ko and Anna Nordqvist giving chase.
Christie Kerr is the defending champion and will be trying to win her fourth title here. She previously won this event in 2005 and 2009. She defeated Suzann Pettersen in a two-hole playoff last year.
Eight of the top-10 players in the Rolex Rankings and 13 of the top-20 are in the field this week at the River Course of the Kingsmill Resort.
Golf Channel will carry the Kingsmill Championship on Thursday and Friday, May 15-16, 8:00-10:00 AM ET. The coverage will continue on the weekend on Golf Channel 5:00-7:00 PM ET.
