For Golf Channel Fantasy Challenge gamers, Week 4 has finally come to a conclusion and a somewhat merciful conclusion (weather delays, pace-of play) at that. The two-event schedule saw a Wood (more familiar to those who follow the European Tour perhaps) and a Woods triumph. That would be a Chris Wood, dramatically eagling his 72nd hole to win The Commercial Bank Qatar Masters (Event 2) in Doha, Qatar by 1 shot; and a Tiger Woods stumbling down the stretch yet still winning the weather-delayed Farmers Insurance Open (Event 1) in La Jolla, Ca. by four shots.
For Englishman Chris Wood, this was his maiden victory on the European Tour (after finishing runner-up three times since turning professional in 2008). Wood was a Group 2 pick and pocketed USD $418,619.00 for fantasy owners.
Tiger Woods won the Farmers Insurance Open for a 7th time. If you include his win at the 2008 US Open, Woods has now won at Torrey Pines a record 8 times. He is the first golfer in PGA Tour history to win a PGA Tour event 8 times on a single course. Tiger’s win also came in his 1st start of his 2013 PGA Tour season and was his 75th PGA Tour victory overall. This places him 2nd all time to Sam Snead (82) and two victories clear of Jack Nicklaus (73). In 6 Golf Channel Fantasy events so far (4 PGA Tour; 2 European Tour), Tiger is the first winner to come out of Group 1 (Group 2: 3 winners; Group 3: 1 winner; Group 4: 1 winner).
Tiger’s win pocketed $1,098,000.00 for fantasy owners.
The Golf Channel Fantasy Challenge for Week 5 will see another two-event schedule as the PGA Tour moves to the Waste Management Phoenix Open at the TPC Scottsdale (Kyle Stanley defending champion); and the European Tour staying in the Middle East for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic at the Emirates GC (Rafa Cabrera-Bello defending champion).
