Golf Writers Association of America Announces Award Winners

Masters Champion, Adam Scott was named Male Golfer of the Year for 2013 by the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA). He won by just five votes over Tiger Woods, who had five tour wins and was 2013 PGA Tour Player of the Year.

Scott finished the year strong with a win at the Barclays in the FedEX Cup playoffs and had two wins plus a runner-up in Australia late in the year. Scott also teamed with Jason Day to win the World Cup at Royal Melbourne.

Inbee Park was voted, Female Golfer of the Year by the GWAA. She won three consecutive major championships and had a total of six wins last season on the LPGA Tour. It was one of the outstanding seasons of all time, not only for women’s golf, but in the history of golf.

Kenny Perry was named GWAA’s Senior Golfer of the Year. He won two majors on the Champions Tour, the Senior Players and the U.S. Senior Open. He also won the AT&T Championship and the Charles Schwab Cup.

Ken Duke was named the Ben Hogan Award Presented by ISPS Handa for remaining active in golf despite a physical handicap. Duke has suffered with scoliosis throughout his life and has not let it deter him from becoming a professional golfer.

Rhonda Glenn was a former president of the USGA, has written two golf books and is one of the foremost authorities on women’s golf. She was named winner of the GWAA William D. Richardson Award for consistently making outstanding contributions to golf.

Graeme McDowell won the ASAP Sports/Jim Murray Award for being accommodating to the media. McDowell is always available for the working men and women in the press tent and takes great pride in his good relations with the golf press.

These awards will be presented to the winners at the annual GWAA dinner on Wednesday evening just prior to the start of the Masters in April.
