Low scoring was the rule for the 78 players that were in the field for the WGC-HSBC over the Jose Maria Olazabal course in the Mission Hills Golf Resort just outside of Shenzhen, China this week.

Ernie Els and Louis Oosthuizen had set the new course record on Friday with a pair of 63’s. Brandt Snedeker topped them both on Saturday when he posted a 12-under par 60 after he missed an eagle putt on No. 18 that would have given him the first 59 in European Tour history.

The $10 million man, Snedeker could only manage a one-under par 71 on Sunday and finished T-11.

Lee Westwood fired a 61 in the third round on Saturday that had moved him into a tie for the lead with Oosthuizen after 54 holes.  Neither Westwood nor Oosthuizen could keep pace on Sunday, both carded even-par 72’s to finish T-6.

Jason Dufner shot the low round on Sunday with a 64 but could only finish tied for second place with Ernie Els, Scott Piercy, and Phil Mickelson.

Mickelson had a very consistent week in China with all four rounds in the 60’s (66-69-66-68) that left him at 19-under par just two shots behind Poulter.

Ian Poulter carded a seven-under par 65 on Sunday for his 12th European Tour win and only the second PGA Tour win of his career. His last PGA Tour win came at the 2010 WGC-Accenture Match Play.

Poulter was one of the leaders for the European Ryder Cup Team that made the miraculous come back from four points down to beat the USA Ryder Cup Team at Medinah Country Club just one month ago.

Poulter is always nattily attired and is more famous for his clothing line than his golf.  He battled some physical and illness problems early in the year in 2012 but has rebounded and will now look to have a big year in 2013.
