Just 21-years-old, Jessica Korda is one of the bright young stars on the LPGA Tour. With her win this weekend at the Airbus LPGA Classic, she joins Anna Nordqvist and Karrie Webb as the only women to have multiple wins this season.
Korda won the first tournament of the year at the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic. She joined the LPGA Tour in 2011 and this is her third career victory.
The win moves her up five spots to No. 7 on the Race to the CME Globe and she moves inside the Top 20 in the Rolex Ranking to No. 16.
The top of the leaderboard was very crowded on Sunday at the Airbus LPGA Classic. Names like, Lewis, Thompson, Wie, Hull, Nordqvist and Matthew were all fighting for the title and the $195,000 check.
Korda began the day T-4 and three shots behind the leader, Nordqvist.
Korda fired a final round seven-under-par 65 to finish at 20-under-par, one shot better than Nordqvist, who fired a solid three-under-par 69.
Michelle Wie posted another good finish with her own final round 67 that left her tied for third with Catriona Matthew and Charley Hull.
Wie is now No. 2 in the Race to the CME Globe, behind Stacy Lewis and is No. 10 in the Rolex Ranking.
Matthew started Sunday solo second and in spite of missing several short putts, posted a final round three-under-par 69.
Charley Hull made her third appearance this season in the U.S. at the Airbus LPGA Classic in Alabama this week. The 18-year-old phenom gave American golf fans a glimpse of her potential. She will soon be battling Lydia Ko and Lexi Thompson for major titles.
Thompson also played well on Sunday and moved eight spots up the leaderboard to finish T-7 with a final round six-under-par 66.
Stacy Lewis is trying desperately to move past Inbee Park and reclaim the No. 1 spot in the Rolex Ranking. She began the final round in third place, but a one-under-par 71 moved her down the leaderboard to a T-10 finish. It was her ninth Top 10 of the year.
Although this was a disappointing finish for Lewis, she still leads the LPGA Tour money list and the Race to the CME Globe.
The LPGA Tour is starting to heat up. Next up for the ladies is the Shoprite LPGA Classic, followed by the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic, before they head to Pinehurst for the U.S. Women’s Open, June 19-22.
