Karrie Webb Goes Low In Final Round to Win JTBC Founders Cup

While the kids had their fun in the early rounds at the JTBC Founders Cup, the veterans know that payday comes on Sunday on the LPGA Tour.

Karrie Webb posted a nine-under par 63 in the final round at the Wildfire Golf Club in Phoenix to get to 19-under par and win the JTBC Founders Cup by one shot.

After a front nine 33, Webb made six birdies over her final eight holes on Sunday to fire a six-under par 30 on the back nine to best five ladies tied for runner-up.

This was Webb’s second win of the year and third top-10 finish in just four starts. She takes the lead in the Race to the Globe and jumps over So Yeon Ryu to claim the No. 5 spot on the Rolex Rankings.

It was her 41st LPGA Tour win and at 39 years of age, she is not getting older, but just keeps getting better.

Stacy Lewis made five birdies on her back nine in the final round on Sunday, but finished one stroke behind the winner.

Also tied for runner-up at 18-under par were Azahara Munoz, Amy Yang, Mirim Lee and 54-hole leader, Lydia Ko.

Ko started fast by making birdies on four of her first five holes on Sunday to get to 20-under par. She followed with three bogeys at Nos. 6, 9 and 11 and carded only one more birdie at No. 15 to leave her at two-under par 70 for the day, which allowed Webb to overtake her.

For Ko, it was her third top-10 finish of the year in five starts. She has not missed a cut thus far and has earned over $200,000. She is the clear frontrunner for Rookie of the Year honors on the LPGA Tour.

Another rookie, Mirim Lee held the lead on Thursday and Friday and shot 70-69 on the weekend to collect $85,895.

Thailand’s Pornanong Phatlum fired a six-under par 66 on Sunday to finish in a tie for seventh with Jessica Korda and So Yeon Ryu.

Christie Kerr and Inbee Park finished one more shot back for T-10.

Michelle Wie had another good outing with four rounds of 66-70-67-70 and finished T-12.

Lexi Thompson posted three rounds in the 60’s to be among the leaders after 54 holes, but a final round 72 dropped to T-29.

The LPGA Tour next moves to Carlsbad, CA for the Kia Classic before heading to Rancho Mirage for the first major of the year at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
