Klara Spilkova from the Czech Republic posted a three-under par 70 to take the lead at the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open. Spilkova started the day in fourth place and jumped over Heather Macrae, Malene Jorgensen and Gwaldys Nocera to assume the top spot at the Ladies European Tour event.
Combined with her first round four-under par 69, she is at seven-under par through 36 holes.
Scotland’s Vikki Laing posted a solid four-under par 69 and trails Spilkova by just a single shot. Jorgensen shot a second round 73 and fell two spots to third, one shot ahead of Valentine Derrey, who is fourth.
The first round leader, Macrae is tied for fifth with Charley Hull and Krista Bakker at three-under par.
Friday’s second round was washed out by heavy rains and wind that buffeted Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. Tournament officials decided to limit the tournament to 54 holes with the cut coming after two rounds.
The rain finally dissipated in the late morning on Saturday, but caused a two-hour delay to the start of play. Lift, clean and place was in effect for the second round on Saturday.
The clouds disappeared and the sun made the National Golf Club sparkle later in the day. Although conditions were ideal in the afternoon, low scores were not common.
The golf course absorbed the rain and the greens were still firm, but receptive to good iron shots.
The 36-hole cut came at six-over par and 67 women will finish play on Sunday.
Turkish Airlines has made a huge commitment to the Belek/Antalya area by sponsoring not only the Ladies European Tour this week, but also the European Tour in November for the Turkish Airlines Open held at the nearby Montgomerie Course at Maxx Royal.
With seven ladies within four shots of the leader, it promises to be another exciting finish to the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open.
