LPGA Tour Heads to Alabama for the Mobile Bay Classic

The ladies had a week off last week to give the boys on the PGA Tour and the Players Championship the full attention in the world of golf.

Fans of the LPGA will be curious to see if Inbee Park can maintain her No. 1 Rolex Ranking. With three wins and five top-10 finishes in 2013, she also leads the LPGA Tour’s money list.

Stacy Lewis held the No. 1 spot on the Rolex Rankings for a few weeks earlier in the year. She has two wins and seven top-10 finishes in 2013.

Lewis is the defending champion at the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic. She posted four rounds in the 60’s and totaled 17-under par for the tournament. Her win here was the first of her four wins last year. It started her run to the top of the Rolex Rankings and the LPGA Tour naming her Player of the Year.

Lexi Thompson finished just one shot off the lead last year in Mobile. Can Lexi shed the sophomore jinx and find the winners circle in Mobile?

Perhaps the hottest player in the world right now, Suzann Pettersen is not in the field this week. She is in Europe and will return to the LPGA Tour next week for the new event on the LPGA Tour, the Pure Silk-Bahamas Classic.

The Mobile Bay LPGA Classic is played on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s Magnolia Grove/Crossing Course. It will play just slightly over 6,900 yards and is a par-72 for the women.

The Crossings Course is just one of three 18-holes championship courses at Magnolia Grove. It is a shotmaker’s layout, with hilly terrain and several pulpit greens, elevated well above the fairway.

Television coverage of the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic will be offered on the Golf Channel on Thursday, May 16, and Friday, May 17, 5:30-7:30 PM ET. Golf Channel will also air the tournament on the Saturday, May 18, and Sunday, May 19, 4:00-6:00 PM ET.
