Lydia Ko Gets First Win as a Professional in Taiwan

Lydia Ko collected her first win as a professional at the Swinging Skirts World Ladies Masters in Taiwan. She made her professional debut with a T-21 at the CME Titleholders at the end of November. This win marked just her second start as a professional.

Ko has proven beyond a shadow of doubt that she has the game to compete with the best women golfers in the world and is already ranked No. 4 on the Rolex Rankngs. She made every cut in 25 starts in professional golf tournaments as an amateur and had four wins. She won the CN Canadian Women’s Open on the LPGA Tour in both 2012 and 2013.

Everyone expected 16-year-old Ko to do well as a professional, but collecting a win and the $150,000 check in just her second professional tournament may be exceeding expectations.

No. 5 ranked So Yeon Ryu shot a one-over par 73 and finished at eight-under par. Ko posted a final round four-under par 68 to finish at 11-under par for the three-shot win.

World No. 1 Inbee Park finished in third place at seven-under par.

The LPGA Tour announced in November that the Swinging Skirts Ladies Masters would become one of four new sanctioned events on tour in 2014. It will be held at Lake Merced Golf Club near San Francisco April 24-27.
