PGA Tour Announces 2013 Schedule

The PGA Tour announced it tournament schedule for 2013 and it is significantly different than in years past.

The main difference is that the 2014 season will now begin after the conclusion of the FedEx Cup Playoffs as part of the new wrap-around scheduling. The events and dates for these new fall events have not yet been announced but it appears that six events will start the 2014 season in the fall of 2013.

The Mayakoba Classic normally held opposite the WGC-Accenture Match Play will be moved to the fall. The Frys.com, Shriners Hospitals for Children, McGladrey, and Childrens Hospital Miracle Network have comprised the fall series events and they should continue on the new schedule. The CIMB Classic held in Malaysia in October will also become a fully sanctioned PGA Tour event in 2013.

The FedEx Cup Playoff events remain the same in 2013 and will begin in the middle of August with the Barclays but there will be a week off for the players between the Deutsche Bank and the BMW Championship.

2013 will begin as always with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii followed by the Sony Open before moving to Palm Springs for the Humana Classic.

There is no PGA Tour Q-School scheduled for 2013. Players will now have to earn a PGA Tour card via the Web.com Tour.

There will be a Q-School to earn a spot on the Web.com Tour. Players can also earn Web.com status through the new PGA Tour owned Canadian and Latinoamerica Tours.

Beginning with the Open Championship July 15-21, to the Tour Championship at the end of the FedEx Cup Playoffs September 16-22, the top golfers will have the WGC-Bridgestone, two majors and four FedEx Cup Playoff events in just ten weeks.

With fewer events in the 2013 season and big name players taking up valuable spots the new scheduling will make it more difficult for players that are struggling or tour rookies to earn sufficient money to keep their playing privileges for next year.
