Rory McIlroy has already sewn up all of the big awards for the 2012 season, but he won’t play on the weekend at the UBS Hong Kong Open.
His two round scores of 73-72 combined for five-over par on the Hong Kong Golf Club and was well outside the cut line.
Four bogeys and only one birdie in the first round on Thursday mandated that he turn in a good round on Friday.
Rory started with a double-bogey on his very first hole in the second round and made three birdies to shoot one-under par for his first nine. He picked up another birdie on his 11th hole of the day but finished with four bogeys over his last seven holes to move outside the number.
McIlroy won four events on the PGA Tour including the PGA Championship and two FedEx Cup Playoff events.
He is the No. 1 ranked player in the world and has won the money titles for 2012 on both the European and PGA Tours.
With the European Tour season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai next week he has already locked up the Race to Dubai.
2005 U.S. Open Champion Michael Campbell who hasn’t been much of a factor in the golf world for many years leads the UBS Hong Kong Open.
Campbell is at nine-under par for the two rounds and leads a trio of golfers that are one shot back.
