If you are a golf writer you always root for the story and Tiger Woods always brings a ton of storylines to a PGA Tour event.
He announced via his website on Friday that he would play in the Quicken Loans National at Congressional next week.
Woods has been out of action since the WGC-Cadillac at Trump Doral in March recuperating from back surgery. He was forced to miss the Masters and the Players Championship.
His back began to become a problem in September 2013 at The Barclays and had bothered him for several months. It limited his practice sessions and playing time.
The decision was finally made that surgery was required and it took place in late March.
After being limited to chipping and putting for a couple of weeks Woods took full swings while the rest of the tour was gouging and hacking their way around Pinehurst No. 2. He was at home in Jupiter, Florida during the U.S. Open taking full swings with a driver, after he had been given the green light to let it rip.
Most speculators thought the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool in July would be optimistic for a Woods return to the grind of competitive golf, but he continues to amaze and astound even in rehabbing.
Of course he has had some practice at recovering from surgeries and injuries in the past. He has endured several knee surgeries over his career and also dealt with other injuries.
The next question becomes, how must rust will Woods have to knock off those golf clubs before he can return to world-class form?
Father time keeps moving and Woods at 37 years old still needs five more majors to surpass Jack Nicklaus major championship victory record of 18.
