The Back 9 Report covered a variety of topics on Tuesday evening.
Tiger Woods is set to return to competitive golf at his Hero World Challenge next week and he announced via his Twitter account that he had added a new ‘swing consultant’ to his team.
Chris Como, a PGA Professional from Plano, Texas, has been hired as Woods’ new swing guru. Como specializes in the most technically advanced aspects of the golf swing and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Biomechanics.
A teenager from Hawaii, Brent Grant, fired a 63 to qualify for the U.S. Amateru Four-Ball Championship. Grant was forced to play solo in the two-man team event, when his partner, 47-year-old Bill Walbert was called into surgery and was unable to compete.
USGA rules did not allow for a substitution, so Grant played as a single and went on to earn the only spot for the championship to be held May 2-6, at Olympic Club in San Francisco.
If Walbert can avoid being on-call, he will be allowed to join Grant at Olympic Club for the finals.
Suzy Whaley became the first woman to ever be elected to an office for the PGA of America. She is in line to assume the presidency of that prestigious organization in 2018.
Fox Sports, who will broadcast all USGA Championships beginning in 2015 has added new analysts and announcers to its team. Corey Pavin and Julie Inkster are two former major championship winners that will provide commentary and analysis for the network.
One of the more humorous stories in golf this year happened at the Weston Country Club near Boston. The president of the club took offense at a member wearing jeans inside the clubhouse in violation of club rules.
A fight ensued and the president has decided to step down and leave the club.
Ross Kzinge, President of Powerbilt, discussed their company’s newest line of golf clubs, Air Force One. He explained how the use of Nitrogen can improve club performance and improve your game.
