5 Best and Worst Fantasy Baseball Performances of Week 15

Week 15 has come to an end and Chris Davis is still hitting home runs. All is right in the world of baseball. The die hard fans that watch games every single day will also be receiving a break but in all honesty most of us will watch the home run derby and the All Star game. Games will resume again on Friday the 19th. For those of you wondering what you will do without baseball for the week you can tune into the ESPY’s on Wednesday, which is always a good time. Back to fantasy we go and below is the best and worst performances of the week.

The five worst performances of week 15.

5. Evan Longoria,  Third Basemen, Tampa Bay Rays

The star of the Rays had a rough week on the diamond. In his past 28 at-bats he has only recorded three hits, one of which was a home run. This is one of the best third basemen in baseball so don’t expect this to be a every week thing. He also struck out eight times and walked twice on the week. Clearly no need to go doing anything crazy by dropping him. Keep this guy in your lineup.

4. Homer Bailey,  Starting Pitcher, Cincinnati Reds

Bailey was all the talk of baseball last week when he threw a no-hitter. Since then he has lost two starts and has yet to record another win. In total he lasted 11 and one third innings combined, while giving up eight earned runs. This puts his weekly ERA at 6.17 with an opponent batting average of .392. He has been anything but perfect and seems to have lost confidence after throwing the no-no. Look for him to rebound and keep the Reds afloat, remember he does have an ERA below four. No need to worry here with Bailey just yet.

3. Todd Frazier,  Third Basemen, Cincinnati Reds

I did not plan for two Reds to make this list but sometimes that is the way the cookie crumbles. Frazier had a smoking hot start to the season but has been up and down since with a lot more downs than up. He had only four hits in 22 at-bats putting his batting average at .182 over those six games. This guys stock has been dropping like flies and for good reason. He has not been seeing the ball well at all lately as he struck out six times. It is about time to pull the trigger on dropping this guy and go and pick up a guy like Chris Johnson who is having the best season of his career and is only owned in about 60 percent of leagues.

2. Carlos Gomez,  Center Fielder, Milwaukee Brewers

If web gems were a fantasy baseball category Gomez would not be on this list. Unfortunately, that is not the case and offense is all that really matters in fantasy. Gomez only recorded one hit in his past seven games and struck out 10 times. He was bound to cool off at some point and it has finally happened. Even if it is only for this week. Once again he is great player who will go into a slump just like any other in baseball. Keep this speed demon in your lineup, or fear the consequences.

1. Kris Medlen,  Starting Pitcher, Atlanta Braves

Last year Medlen couldn’t lose a game and it seems like the complete opposite this year. He has had a lot of good outings where the Braves haven’t given him much to work with but this week has been the opposite. He got completely rocked over over nine innings combined with an ERA of 9.64. He gave up one home run and walked four men over this time. He just hasn’t looked like himself on the mound lately and his two seamer is not moving like it normally does. Hopefully this is not an injury thing but you should keep an eye on Medlen and might need to drop him if things continue going ary.

Top five performances of week 15.

5. Mike Trout,  Left Fielder, Los Angeles Angels

This guy came up for the Angels last season and had a pretty good year. I don’t know if you have heard of him before but his name is Mike Trout. He is okay at baseball... That was my attempt at sarcasm. In the past five games this man has hit two triples, a home run and two doubles. This puts his batting average at .471 for the week and his four walks put his OBP at .571. To put it lightly this guy is beasting. Trout is one of the most exciting players in baseball and it is going to be interesting to see what his numbers will be at years end. Do I even have to tell you to start this guy? You should just know at this point.

4. Patrick Corbin,  Starting Pitcher, Arizona Diamondbacks

The votes are in and Corbin has been selected to the All Star game! He comes as one of the more surprising players to make the team but has had a hell of a season. In his past two starts he went 2-0 with a 1.23 ERA, allowing only two earned runs over 14 and two/third innings pitched. His strikeout numbers were beyond amazing as he struck out 20 men! This proves why he is rightfully deserved of the All Star nod. Also his opponent batting average of those games was .189. Keep it up Corbin and you’ll have yourself a long career in the bigs.

3. Buster Posey,  Catcher, San Francisco Giants

Is 14 hits in your past 29 at-bats good? If you said yes; which you should have, then you would know that Posey is dominating right now. His .483 batting average is the highest of any hitter this week and that is not all he has done. He hit one home run and drove in 8 men. His four doubles is the second most over the seven game span as well. He is a top five catcher easily but is not on the level of Yadier Molina just yet. Keep him in your lineup as catchers are a tough position to field in fantasy terms.

2. Adrian Beltre,  Third Basemen, Texas Rangers

In the past seven games Beltre has hit four home runs which is the most in baseball over that time period. His home runs helped him get his RBIs up as he hit nine of those as well. He also walked once and didn’t strike out once. He is 10th in the Majors in home runs this year at 21 which is tied with big time slugger Robinson Cano. This guy is slowly getting up there in age as he is now 34 years old but it seems like he is still in his prime. Keep this guy on your team and in your lineup.

1. Miguel Cabrera,  Third Basemen, Detroit Tigers

I am going to keep it short here because it seems like Miggy is always on the top five list. All he did this week was hit .458 with three home runs and seven RBIs. His six walks put his OBP at an impressive .548. He even stole a base this week, so he is doing everything for your fantasy team. Cabrera is hands down the best hitter in the game today. I have no more to say about this freak of nature. You already know your not taking him out of your lineup.
