5 MLB Teams Set to Disappoint in 2015

There have been several roster changes throughout Major League Baseball as some clubs have both added and lost key pieces to their previous success.  With such roster overhauls, some teams have a lot to work on come Spring Training.  Here’s a look at five teams set to disappoint in 2015.

Kansas City Royals

The Royals were the surprise team last year.  Coming out of nowhere to secure a spot in the wild card game, the Royals swept their way to the World Series, but lost to the San Francisco Giants in what was a highly entertaining seven games.

Looking ahead to this season, the Royals will have steep competition within their division.  Each AL Central team has improved this offseason, and the Royals will be without Billy Butler and James Shields.

Their bullpen was the best in the bigs last year and look to improve in 2015.  Their pen was nearly unhittable in the playoffs, which helped them reach the World Series.

The defending AL Champs could very well pull off a repeat, but they did show struggles at times throughout the season before dominating the AL playoffs.  They are in a division that has seen a lot of improvement this winter, and KC still has something to prove; that last season wasn’t a fluke.

San Francisco Giants

The defending World Series Champs are set to regress this year.  They lost a big contributor in Pablo Sandoval this offseason, which won’t bode well as the Giants prepare for 2015.

If not for Madison Bumgarner’s phenomenal postseason, the Giants would have been in trouble.  He kept the orange and black alive and was able to cool off a red hot Royals lineup.  Looking at this season, they haven’t done anything to improve their starting rotation.  There were rumors of signing Jon Lester, but he took the deal with the Chicago Cubs.  The pitching situation is a concern for the Giants this season.

And, this can’t go without saying, 2015 is after all an odd year.  The Giants have won three championships over the past five seasons, but have greatly struggled the following season, even with top producers.  Now they are without Sandoval, and the lineup will take a hit.

Oakland A’s

Now a look at the team on the other side of the bay, the A’s.  Oakland has created a huge roster change and not necessarily for the better.  Their top offensive producers are gone in Josh Donaldson, Yoenis Cespedes, and Brandon Moss.  They have brought in some guys to replace them, but it’s difficult to replace All Stars; and the A’s had seven last year.

The AL West is a tough division with teams on the rise and eyes set on a division title.  Oakland has made the postseason for three years in a row, but despite having an All Star lineup, faltered toward the end of the 2014 season and lost a heartbreaker to the KC Royals.

They will look to rebound from such a tough loss and welcome several newcomers, but there are question marks surrounding the starting rotation as well as offensive production; which is always the concern with the A’s.

Baltimore Orioles

The Orioles won the AL East by a landslide last season, but after a flurry of moves by the Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, the East looks to be a tough division to win.

Baltimore made it to the ALCS only to be swept by the Royals, but theres been some change in roster, most notably Nelson Cruz’s departure.  The slugger had an outstanding 2014 providing some serious spark to the lineup, and now they’ll be without him.  They also have to deal with the aftermath of Chris Davis’ suspension.  Last season was nowhere near as good as his 2013 numbers, but now he has something to prove and will look to rebound and perform exceptionally well.

Due to a seeming loss of offensive production and a lot of improvement by some AL East rivals, the O’s look to disappoint this year.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Jays have had one heck of an offseason, but does the offense have enough power to propel an iffy pitching staff.

They’ve created quite a daunting lineup with Josh Donaldson, Jose Bautista, and Edwin Encarnacion, but the pitching is still a concern, which means they may show some disappointment in 2015.

With this new roster a division title is in sight, but there has been a lot of improvement by other teams in the East as well, and the Blue Jays have had trouble keeping pace for the entirety of the season.

There’s no doubt they have a star studded lineup, but a pitching staff led by Mark Buehrle and R.A. Dickey may not lead to complete success as both have had up and down careers.
