As the trade deadline slowly approaches there are a few teams that are looking to sell and plan for the 2014 season. On the other hand teams that are in the playoff picture are looking to fill out the missing pieces to give themselves the best chance to make a deep run into the playoffs. Below is five teams who will be looking to trade away some of their talent.
Jurickson Profar (Texas Rangers) to the Miami Marlins for Giancarlo Stanton. The Rangers are looking to add some depth at their outfield position and the bat of Stanton would be the perfect fit. They would be giving up a great prospect in Profar but when it is for a young talent like Stanton it makes sense.
Bud Norris (Houston Astros) to the San Francisco Giants
This trade could potentially send the decent pitcher that is Norris to the Giants who are surprisingly in need of a starting pitcher. Tim Lincecum is having another struggle filled season and things are not looking great for his future. He has far too many moving parts in his delivery and is going to become more of an assignment than anything. Norris isn’t the greatest pitcher to take the bump but he isn’t horrible either. It’s not like the Astros will be competing anytime soon either.
Juan Francisco (Milwaukee Brewers) to Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers are in need of a third basemen and the Brewers have a decent amount of depth at that position. They likely won’t give up Aramis Ramirez so it makes sense to give up Francisco. Juan Uribe isn’t having a great year but they need more power out of their third base spot. Francisco can provide that extra boost of power but he is also strikes out a lot. It will be interesting to see what the Dodgers end up doing at the deadline.
Mark Teixeira (New York Yankees)
I do not know exactly where he will end up but Teixeira is the talk of baseball when it comes to trades being made. Mark has performed well under what he was expected to especially considering his contract so this move could happen sooner rather than later. The Cardinals have been talks of getting the first basemen but at this point the market is wide open. Keep an eye on this guy as the trade deadline closes in.
Chase Headley (San Diego Padres)
Headley had a career year in the 2012 season and most Padres fans expected him to do the same this year. That has not been the case to this point in the season as he is batting about .230 and not looking like the same guy of 2012. He is also at the end of his contract and he said that he doesn’t want to talk about it until the season is over. This might scare Padres ownership and force them to move him before they get no value for him whatsoever. This is another name to keep your eye on come All Star break.
