After being drilled by a pitch Friday night against the Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Angels first baseman C.J. Cron exited the field in obvious pain. The initial diagnosis of a broken left hand was bad enough.
It's now being reported that Cron will miss the next 6-8 weeks and will undergo surgery on the broken hand Tuesday.
This puts an already injury-plagued and disappointing Angels season in even more jeopardy moving into the second half of the season. Cron, 26, was one of the few bright spots for the Angels prior to last week's injury, posting a .278 average with 11 homers and 50 RBI.
With Cron now sidelined for at least the next six weeks, the Angels called up infielder Ji-Man Choi to take his spot on the 25-man roster. The expectation here also has to be that Albert Pujols wil see action at first with Jefry Marte also seeing some action.
Cron entered the All-Star Break as the 17th-best fantasy first basemen in the game. Needless to say, whoever replaces him at first isn't going to be able to provide that type of production.
