Now go sit in the corner and think about what you’ve done. These are the words that 20 Major League Baseball players could be hearing within the next few weeks. The news first broke when Outside the Lines reported that they have heard news that MLB will be dropping suspensions on the players involved with the South Florida Biogenesis clinic. Anthony Bosch has finally agreed to help MLB, which is the final straw that broke the camels back. In this case, Ryan Braun and Alex Rodriguez are the biggest names to be dropped.
The Biogenesis clinic is known for supplying different levels of baseball players with banned-substances. Anthony Bosch has decided to start talking to investigators and he plans on dropping all 20 of the players’ names. If the suspensions happen you could very likely see Braun and A-Rod receiving 100 game suspensions. The players are already known by the MLB, it is now in Bosch’s hands to give over the evidence and in fact state that these reports are accurate.
Besides A-Rod and Braun there are a few names that they believe will be named as well. Those names are as followed.
Evereth Cabrera San Diego Padres
Melky Cabrera Toronto Blue Jays
Bartolo Colon Oakland Athletics
Nelson Cruz Texas Rangers
Francisco Cervelli New York Yankees
Fernando Martinez Houston Astros
Jesus Montero Seattle Mariners
Jhonny Peralta Detroit Tigers
There are a few more players that have been named but they aren’t guys who you would consider “MLB” players. Along with this list is Gio Gonzalez. Gonzalez looks to be the only player to not be suspended as he actually purchased legal substances from this company.
The only question I have of all these names is Mr. Melky Cabrera. He already served a suspension last season and if these claims are true, in my opinion, should not be suspended. My thoughts on it is that he received these drugs last year from this clinic and has already served what he needs to serve as far as suspensions go. Of course news could surface that Cabrera had been using drugs for longer than just last season, we shall see.
When Braun’s name came up earlier this year with the clinic he said that he was using Bosch as a consultant for performance-enhancing drugs. The funny thing about that is Bosch, in a recent statement, said that he has no knowledge of performance-enhancing drugs. Therefore, Braun’s statement would not match up with the information at hand. This makes you wonder if Braun is the one telling the truth or Anthony Bosch. Either way things are not looking good for the Milwaukee Brewers slugger.
If you are anything like me, then you aren’t even a bit surprised that A-Rod’s name is coming up in these accusations. He has been linked to steroids many times in his career. Rodriguez can say whatever he wants, and is innocent until proven guilty, but there is far too much water for there not to be a flood. If it looks like a dog, smells like a dog and barks like a dog, chances are it is a dog.
If you expect to wake up tomorrow and learn that these 20 players have been suspended don’t get your hopes up. From what has been stated, Bosch will begin talking to investigators within the week. Therefore players will not be named until at least two weeks from now. Once again all players are innocent until proven guilty. The only problem with that is most fans are sick of players cheating and in the “steroid era” you are guilty until proven innocent. It may not be the right way but it is what it is. Sleep tight MLBers and play your tail off because you never know when the gavel will drop.
