The Oakland Athletics have officially re-acquired infielder Jed Lowrie from the Houston Astros in exchange for minor league pitcher Brendan McCurry.
Lowrie, 31, hit just .222 with nine homers and 30 RBI's in 69 games with the Astros last season — his first after signing a three-year, $23 million deal with the team.
The veteran infielder hasn't really lived up to expectations after being a first-round pick of the Boston Red Sox back in 2005, at which point he was considered one of the organization's finest prospects.
Though, Lowrie did break through big time in his first season with the A's back in 2013, hitting .290 with 15 homers and 75 runs driven in.
Lowrie joins a crowded infield in Oakland that already includes third baseman Brett Lawrie and young shortsop Marcus Semien.
Though, the veteran has played multiple infield positions. There's also a decent chance Oakland could keep Lowrie at short while moving Semien, who struggled defensively in 2015, to second.
