Biggest Fantasy Baseball Surprises of Week 8

It is the end of week eight which means it is time for the biggest fantasy baseball surprises. This list contains three players who dominated their craft this week.

Jason Castro  Catcher, Houston Astros

A big surprise batter here as he came into the week batting a dismal .235. That didn’t seem to phase him as he recorded seven hits in 15 at-bats, giving him a batting average of .467 for the week. Along with his impressive batting average was that he hit three home runs and drove in five runs. He also managed to take the stroll to first base three times over the past five games. The Astros are a struggling ballclub that need to take their “ups” when they can get them. This team is on pace to be one of the worst to ever play the game, but for the time being can be happy with the production they have gotten from the young catcher.

Yan Gomes  Catcher, Cleveland Indians

The second surprise of the week goes to another catcher in the American League. He has been scuffling at the plate all year but turned it up this week. He hit three home runs over four games with seven RBIs to go with those homers. The strikeout problem has been an issue for him all year and that seemed to be the problem this week as well, as he tallied seven in four games. If you need a catcher desperately you could take a chance on Gomes but don’t expect him to put these numbers up consistently.

Michael Brantley  Left Fielder, Cleveland Indians

The final surprise of the week goes to another Cleveland Indians ball player. First, this should not be a surprise to many that we have two Indians who made this list as they have been playing so good they have picked up the nickname of “Windians”. Back to the topic at hand. Brantley had himself a great week as he drove in nine runs over the past seven games, with one home run and a .429 batting average. If you are looking for an outfielder, Brantley is owned in roughly 70 percent of leagues and has a season batting average of .316. The question you should now ask yourself is, why not pick this guy up?
