Here we have the Week 10 surprises; including a rookie sensation who has made his name known right out of the gates. Let’s get right into it.
Yasiel Puig, Right Fielder, Los Angeles Dodgers
In his first big league start, Puig managed to hit two home runs and one double. If anyone thought that the big leaguers' first game was a fluke should now understand that this kid will be here for awhile. In a 1-0 game on Thursday night, he hit a grand slam in the 8th inning to all but wrap up the win for LA. Over the past week he has hit four home runs, driven in ten men and checks in with a batting average of .450. He should likely slow down at some point but for the time being he has been completely dominant. Oh yeah, he also has a cannon arm in right field that can throw out damn near anyone. This big leaguer has been getting Bo Jackson comparisons, it should be tough to live up to that.
Jose Iglesias, Third Basemen, Boston Red Sox
The 23 year old Cuban has been making the most of his opportunities in Boston. Iglesias is batting .446 on the season and an even better mark of .474 this week. He also hit one home run in the past six games along with three RBIs. He showed great plate discipline this week as he walked five times in 19 at-bats. If Iglesias continues to perform at this level he just might become the permanent starting third basemen even when Will Middlebrooks returns from his back strain injury.
Kyle Blanks, Right Fielder, San Diego Padres
I for one had no idea who this guy was until the last couple of weeks. He is playing very well as of late and has a season batting average of .300. His week numbers are great as he hit three home runs in seven games along with driving in seven runs. He also managed to walk twice but the most impressive stat of his is how much he has been making contact. His weekly batting average is .417 with an OBP of .462. Who knows what will happen from here on out with this guy but for now you gotta take it.
