Looking for some help at the back end of their rotation, the Toronto Blue Jays have signed veteran Gavin Floyd to a one-year, $1 million contract. The 33-year-old veteran can also receive $1 million in incentives based on how many days he's on the team's active 25-man roster:
Floyd hasn't seen regular action in the Majors since he was with the Chicago White Sox in 2012. A combination of injuries and a lack of success on the hill has seen him appear in just 21 games over the past three seasons. He pitched in seven games for the Cleveland Indians last season.
While this signing is a shot in the dark for Toronto, it's important to note that Floyd does possess some success in the past. He won double-digit games during a five-year span from 2008-2012, earning 62 wins during that span.
If healthy, Floyd should compete with J.A. Happ and Jesse Chavez for the fifth spot in Toronto's rotation this season.
