Boston Red Sox closer Koji Uehara hasn't necessarily had a lot of opportunities to close for the last-place team. When given an opportunity, he's been pretty darn dependable. The veteran has put up a 2.23 ERA and 0.92 WHIP while saving 25 games in 43 appearances.
His season is now over after suffering a fractured wrist in the team's game against the Detroit Tigers on Friday night:
While Uehara is expected to make a fully recovery in time for the 2016 season, his injury leaves the Red Sox without a proven closer for the remainder of the year. It also leaves fantasy owners scrambling as fake baseball hits the stretch run.
Junichi Tazawa will likely take over the Red Sox closer duties. The 29-year-old reliever has posted a 3.19 ERA and 1.10 WHIP in 49 appearances on the season.
