The St. Louis Cardinals will be without set-up man Trevor Rosenthal when the team opens up its regular season this weekend against the defending champion Chicago Cubs.
St. Louis placed Rosenthal on the 10-day disabled list Thursday with a right late strain. He'll miss about the first week of the regular season.
This could have an indirect impact on the ability of Cardinals starters to rack up wins for the first week. Carlos Martinez is slated to start against Jon Lester on Sunday with Adam Wainwright taking the second turn in the rotation the next game.
Rosenthal pitched to a 2-4 record with a 4.46 ERA last season. This caused him to lose his closer job after racking up a combined 93 saves the previous two years.
