Wainwright has been completely in control since giving up six runs on June 27th. Over his last 25 innings he has allowed only one earned run, and over his last eight starts he has allowed more than two runs only twice. Wainwright is 5-2 during that span, and now he faces a Padres lineup that is only middle of the road. The Padres are tied for 17th in runs, and are only 25th in runs this season, and are a team that have not hit Wainwright all that well. Wainwright has held them to a .247 batting average in 81 at bats. It was a rough start for Wainwright, but the Cardinals ace appears to be back to his dominant self over the last month and a half.
