The Los Angeles Dodgers will be calling on 19-year-old starting pitcher Julio Urias to make his Major League debut against the New York Mets on Friday.
It's a rather shocking development given Urias' incredibly young age, but he's the organization's top pitching prospect and was dominating at Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to the call-up.
Urias, an international free agent signing from Mexico, recorded a 4-1 record with a 1.10 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 5.5-to-1 strikeout/walk ratio in eight games (seven starts) in the Minors prior to his call up on Thursday.
Urias' debut will come in replacement of veteran Alex Wood, who was scratched from Friday's start with left triceps tightness.
Though, this doesn't seem to be a short-term trip to the Majors. Dodgers' president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman indicated on Thursday that the team will look to monitor Urias' workload in the Majors for the remainder of the season.
Not only a top Dodgers' prospect, Urias is actually rated as a top-10 prosect by Baseball Prospectus.
From a fantasy standpoint, it makes sense to take a wait and see approach here. We have no idea how Urias will perform out of the gate, so he's naturally not much of an option in DFS contests.
