It’s approaching that wonderful time of the year where it’s time to start preparing ourselves for the fantasy baseball drafts that are in the not so distant future. While you can’t win your league with just your first round pick you can certainly set yourself up on a good position to win if you make the proper pick. Using our eDraft mock draft simulator tool I simulated the first round to get a feel for what things may look like going into next season.
To get these results I ran a 12-team mock draft and ran the simulator 10 times. I then took the average draft position for each player to get a quality feel for when players will be drafted in the first round.
)Mike Trout, Outfield
)Clayton Kershaw, Starting Pitcher
)Miguel Cabrera, First/Third Base
)Andrew McCutchen, Outfield
)Giancarlo Stanton, Outfield
)Paul Goldschmidt, First Base
)Robinson Cano, Second Base
)Jose Abreu, First Base
)Felix Hernandez, Starting Pitcher
)Carlos Gomez, Outfield
)Adam Jones, Outfield
)Chris Sale, Starting Pitcher
Overall I would have to say there weren’t too many surprises in this mock draft and players went in around the position where I would think they should go. The one thing that surprised me a little was that there three pitchers in the top 12. Starting pitching is extremely deep and outside of Kershaw it is highly unlikely that I would take a pitcher in the first round.
