There's no reason to believe youngster Julio Urias won't be a dominating starter at some point soon, but the 19-year-old flame thrower doesn't appear to be there just yet.
Urias was optioned down to Triple-A on Sunday after struggling over the course of his past two starts. During that span, the teenager has yielded 13 earned runs in just 6.1 innings. More than anything, control has been an issue for the lefty. He has struck out 11 and walked 14 in 23.1 innings (five starts).
With the Dodgers loaded in terms of the starting rotation, this move made a lot of sense. It enables Urias to work on his control in the minors. Though, we fully expect him to be back up with the big league club at some point this summer.
As an 18-year-old rookie last season, Urias posted a 3.39 ERA and struck out 84 batters in 77 innings. He has dominating stuff. It's now all about fine-tuning his game in the minors.
