Good Value Players
Pitcher
Alfredo Simon, Reds, $6,400: Simon gave up two earned runs on four hits over 6.2 innings pitched Wednesday against Pittsburgh. He walked five, but struck out four, which helped lead him to a whopping 112 pitches (69 strikes) over 6.1 innings. The walks are of concern, but his 1.30 ERA is not. He'll take on the Cubs at home tonight and should be able to get a quality outing from him including some good fantasy points.
Catcher
Chris Iannetta, Angels, $2,800: Iannetta went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in a loss to the Yankees on Saturday. He has quietly turned in a nice couple of weeks after struggling mightily to begin the season, and is the owner of a .222/ .358/.426 battling line with two home runs and nine RBI’s in his first 54 at-bats. While the batting average isn't much to speak of, Iannetta should remain a serviceable option as long as he can continue to combine superior plate discipline with moderate power. He faces the Indians pitcher Justin Masterson who owns a 4.50 ERA in five starts.
First Base
James Loney, Rays, $3,100: Loney went 3-for-4 against the White Sox on Saturday, with one RBI and one run scored. The hits just keep on coming for Loney, as he continues to build off a very nice bounceback year in 2013. He now has 16 hits in his last 34 at-bats. Loney is a left-handed batter and will face a right-handed pitcher for the White Sox, Andre Rienzo, who has a 4.91 ERA.
Second Base
Scooter Gennett, Brewers, $3,200: If there was a day where you need to pay top dollar for a second baseman, today is most likely that day. With such few good hitting second basemen, there is no doubt you would rather have Ben Zobrist or Jason Kipnis. But if you’re willing to take a chance, Gennett is the man to pick. He has an even .300 batting average with one homerun, eight RBI’s, and three stolen bases. Gennett can get you points every which way and is a good reason as to why he should be in your lineup.
Third Base
Ian Stewart, Angels, $3,200: Stewart has been doing a great job filling in with both David Freese and Raul Ibanez struggling. There is a great chance that he will continue to see more at-bats which means he will be pretty valuable here in our daily leagues. Like Iannetta, Stewart is also facing Justin Masterson of the Indians. If Masterson continues to pitch like he has been, most of the Angels lineup should have a decent day.
Shortstop
Jhonny Peralta, Cardinals, $3,000: Peralta went 2-for-4 with two home runs, driving in four, in Sunday's win over Pittsburgh. Peralta had a solo shot in the third and a three-run bomb in the sixth that wouldn't have been possible except for the Pirates failure to turn a double-play on a Yadier Molina ground out. The home runs were Peralta's fifth and sixth of the season. before the Pirates series, Peralta was in a bit of a slump but now it seems that he has picked up back up and may be on a hot streak. Play him today and keep an eye on him over the next couple days to see how hot he stays.
Outfield
Michael Morse, Giants, $3,500: Morse has been looking good his past few games. He is still being pulled late in games for defensive purposes, but that hasn't stopped him from being an extremely productive fantasy bat early in the season. In his past four games Morse has produced three homeruns, six RBI’s, and four runs scored. If that’s not hot I don’t know what is. Morse should definitely be considered in your fantasy lineup on this short day of baseball.
My Lineup: $35,000 Cap
Pitcher – Alfredo Simon, Reds, $6,400
Catcher – Chris Iannetta, Angels, $2,800
First Base – James Loney, Rays, $3,100
Second Base – Scooter Gennett, Brewers, $3,200
Third Base – Ian Stewart, Angels, $3,200
Shortstop – Jhonny Peralta, Cardinals, $3,000
Outfield – Mike Morse, Giants, $3,500
Outfield – Mike Trout, Angels, $5,600: Trout went 2-for-3 with a home run, two walks and a stolen base in a loss to the Yankees on Saturday and 2-for-4 on Sunday. The 22-year-old has six home runs and 15 RBI this season. Since there isn’t many game played today I figured it would be a good idea to save as much money as possible and snag the best hitting outfielder in the game. I understand he is worth a lot of money but it will be extremely beneficial.
Outfield – Carlos Gomez, Brewers, $4,100: Gomez has produced positive daily fantasy points in eight of his last 10 games. Whether it be from hits, runs, RBI’s, or walks, Gomez is doing it all and that means there is a solid chance of him putting it all together in one game and scoring tons of points. He has a tough matchup against the Cardinals Michael Wacha but Gomez is such a natural hitter that he can still do big things against the best hitters.
