The last day of the first week of baseball is finally upon us and hopefully your daily’s have gone as well as mine have so far. We have yet another full slate of games today, but be sure to get your selections before 1pm because there are only three night games tonight.
My fantasy picks are from FanDuel.com. If you have yet to sign up on FanDuel now is the time, as you will receive a 1000 percent deposit bonus on your initial deposit when you join through this link.
On FanDuel you are allotted a $ 35,000 cap for selecting players. Your lineup will consist of one starting pitcher and one position player at each position except for outfield where you select three outfielders.
The scoring system is very simple:
Batters: Single = 1pt, Double = 2pts, Triple = 3pts, Homerun = 4pts, Run = 1pt, Walk = 1pt, Stolen Base = 2pts, Out = -.25pts
Pitchers: Win = 4pts, Earned Runs = -1pt, Strike Out = 1pt, Inning Pitched = 1pt
Value Picks
Pitcher
Nathan Eovaldi, Marlins, $5,600: While you will be lucky to get the strikeout per inning rate that Eovaldi provided in his week one start he does have a favorable matchup against the Padres in his second start. Eovaldi showed a ton of improvement last season in his 16 starts posting a 3.39 ERA and while I don’t know that he will duplicate that number over a full season he should post solid numbers for a second consecutive start. At only $5,600 he is worth the risk if you are a believer in what he’s done the last year plus.
Catcher
Yan Gomes, Indians, $2,800: Gomes is flying under the radar so far this season. He has one homerun on the season so far and faces Ricky Nolasco who should provide Gomes with plenty of pitches to hit.
First Base
Allen Craig, Cardinals, $3,300: I’m as shocked as you are to see Craig’s name on a list of value picks but with the way he’s been hitting the ball (or lack of in his case) Craig’s price has dropped to value level. Craig has a great matchup versus Edinson Volquez which should remedy all problems Craig has had at the plate thus far this year. In his ten years in the majors Volquez has had an ERA under 4.14 once in his career. The stars appear to have aligned in Craig’s favor for today so get him into your lineups.
Second Base
Howie Kendrick, Angels, $2,800: Kendrick is finally coming around at the plate with back to back two hit games. While his next matchup isn’t exactly a favorable one against Scott Feldman it doesn’t scare me away either.
Third Base
Daniel Murphy, Mets, $3000: Murphy is off to a good start since joining the lineup after missing the first two games of the season while attending the birth of his first child. Murphy has managed at least one hit in all three games played. Murphy makes for an intriguing play today with the opposing pitcher being Alfredo Simon, who hasn’t started a game since 2011 and only has 19 starts under his belt for his career. Simon has been much better in his career as a reliever than a starter and even if he pitches well, Simon is not stretched out enough to go deep into the game, which means a very shaky bullpen is coming in early.
Third Base
Casey McGehee, Marlins, $3,100: McGehee has yet to dissapoint this year and goes into this game riding a six game hitting streak. The opposing pitcher is Ian Kennedy who has one CY Young caliber season under his belt surrounded by a bunch of below average seasons. I would be shocked to see McGehee end his hitting streak today, and with the way the Marlins have been hitting collectively as a team he should be able to score or drive in a few runs of his own.
Short Stop
Chris Owings, Diamondbacks, $2,900: So far this rookie has done nothing but impress in the 2014 season after having a solid debut last year. There is no reason to hop off the Owings train yet and I intend to ride this train for as long as it lasts.
Outfield
Ben Revere, Phillies, $3,000: Revere has hit the ball well so far this season and when he gets on the bases he isn’t afraid to use that blazing speed of his to steal a bag. Revere already has three steals in five games. Revere should be able to get on and run wild vs. Carlos Villanueva who had a 5.60 ERA in the spring and has given up a run in both relief appearances so far to start the season.
My Lineup: $35,000 Cap
Pitcher: Nathan Eovaldi, Marlins, $5,600
Catcher: Wilin Rosario, Rockies, $3,500
First Base: Allen Craig, Cardinals, $3,300
Second Base: Howie Kendrick, Angels, $2,800
Third Base: David Wright, Mets, $4,300
Short Stop: Troy Tulowitzki, Rockies, $4,400
Outfield: Ben Revere, Phillies, $3,000
Outfield: Giancarlo Stanton, Marlins, $4,900
Outfield: Abraham Almonte, Mariners, $3,000
Don't forget to check your lineup before each game to make sure that everyone in your lineup is starting. The last thing you want is a zero spot in your lineup costing yourself money.
