My Value Picks
Pitcher
Marcus Stroman, Blue Jays, $7,400: Stroman had one of the best July of any pitcher in baseball with the exception of one start. Stroman only gave up six runs the entire month and five of those came in one start. He had three starts where he gave up zero runs and one start where he gave up one run. Stroman also went seven innings in every start but the one where he gave up five runs. In his last three starts he a has a 4:20 walk to strikeout ratio which has strongly aided to his recent hot streak. Stroman goes up against an average offense in the Astros, and they have Scott Feldman on the mound so Stroman still has a good shot at a win if he does give up a couple of runs.
Catcher
Derek Norris, Athletics, $3,100: Norris had been struggling since coming out of the All Star break but has seen his bat pick back up over recent games. He’s riding a four game hitting streak and bats right in the middle of an A’s offense that can explode at any given time even with the trade of Yoenis Cespedes. Even through his Struggles Norris is still batting .300 so even if he doesn’t get an RBI or score a run he generally provide positive points with a base hit or two.
First Base
Tommy Medica, Padres, $2,900: It’s not every day where it’s a smart move to recommend starting a Padre seeing as they have the lowest scoring offense in baseball however Medica is otherworldly hot right now. Medica is seven for his last nine with two homeruns, four runs scored, four RBI and a stolen base. Now he gets to bat against Aaron Harang which should help keep Medica’s hot bat going.
Second Base
Aaron Hill, Diamondbacks, $3,200: At a position that is weak in good hitters it’s always a welcome sight to find a player who is hot. During the last two weeks Hill is batting .313 with two homeruns, nine runs scored and five RBI. He's a good play at a weak position if you are hoping to save some cap room.
Third Base
Pablo Sandoval, Giants, $3,200: Sandoval has been a changed batter after starting off so cold it didn’t appear he would ever find his way at the plate. Last month Pablo batted .307 but only had nine runs scored and nine RBI due to an overall struggling Giants offense. As the Giants bats heat up Pablo will see his counting stats climb up as well. It will also be nice to see him go on another power spree after only slugging two homeruns in July.
Short Stop
Alexei Ramirez, White Sox, $3,300: Alexei has always been known as a good second half hitter and he is proving that to be true during his most recent five game hitting streak in which he has six runs scored, eight RBI and a homerun. The Twins have Kyle Gibson on the mound who has been feast or famine all season long. Since June 2 Gibson has five starts in which he allowed zero runs and he went seven innings in all but one of those in his other five starts Gibson allowed at least four runs including a high of seven against the Angels. If this is one of Gibson’s cold games White Sox batters could be in store for a big game.
Outfield
Adam Eaton, White Sox, $3,200: The fact that Eaton only costs $3,200 makes him an absolute steal. Eaton is crazy hot at the plate right now with hits in 18 of his last 19 games that has seen his average climb from .265 all the way up to .305. Since July 20th he has 12 runs scored and seven RBI. What’s most impressive about this is that he has been playing with a broken middle finger since the all star break, and now you can’t get him out at the plate. Get him in your lineups now and enjoy the ride while he is hot.
