My Value Picks
Pitcher
Michael Pineda, Yankees, $5,700: When he’s been healthy enough to pitch this year he has been great for the Yankees. He has not allowed more than two runs in any start this season and carries a 1.95 ERA and a .86 WHIP into his next start. Even though this start comes against a potent Blue Jays lineup they were held in check last night by Chris Capuano, and Pineda has faced them once earlier in the year and threw six innings of one run ball with five strikeouts.
Catcher
Yadier Molina, Cardinals, $3,000: Fresh off the disabled list Molina will be making just his second appearance since the injury. Fortunately for him he gets to face Felix Doubront who has been just as bad of a reliever as he ahs been a starter.
First Base
Ryan Howard, Phillies, $3,300: his overall season is nothing to marvel at but at least Howard is hitting the ball right now. For his last 15 games Howard is batting .316 with eight RBI and three runs scored. As the cleanup hitter the RBI are always going to be there for him and if he can drive one of the park he is more than worth the price.
Second Base
Emilio Bonifacio, Braves, $2,700: Bonifacio since getting traded to the Braves has continued his hot hitting from Chicago. Over the last 30 days Bonifacio is batting .300 with five steals. If it weren’t for the struggles of the Braves offense as a whole he would have more than six runs scored but he continues to do his part by getting on base which is very valuable in daily leagues.
Third Base
Adrian Beltre, Rangers, $3,200: Beltre is having another Beltre type season and if he hadn’t spent so much time on the DL he would be a likely candidate for another 30 homerun season. Regardless he is hitting the ball well as he has done all season long and is facing the Astros pitching staff which is throwing Scott Feldman out on the mound tomorrow. Big things could be in store for Beltre tomorrow if the rest of the lineup can find a way to get on base in front of him.
Short Stop
Chris Taylor, Mariners, $3,000: Taylor has locked down the shortstop position for the Mariners. He is still batting over .300 and is finally contributing in some other categories with 11 runs scored and two steals in his last five games. If he is able to continue to hit the two spot more consistently he is going to provide a ton of value over the last stretch of baseball games.
Outfield
Ender Inciarte, Diamondbacks, $3,200: After a start to his career that started off rather slow Inciarte looks very comfortable at the major league level right now. He is batting .306 with two homeruns, 13 runs scored, 11 RBI and six steals over the last 30 days. Three of those steals have come in the last six games and now he is in a series against the Rockies who don’t have any pitchers on there roster that would scare you away from starting a player.
