Fantasy Baseball Daily - May 17, 2014

The weekend is finally upon us but that doesn’t mean it is time to relax from daily’s just because the work week is finally over.  We have a full slate of games to analyze here as we look to win some money.  Today we have five day games with everyone else playing a night game.

We bring you fantasy daily picks for FanDuel .com and if you haven’t signed up  yet, be sure to follow this link http://eDraft.com/FanDuel/MLB to receive a 100% deposit bonus on your initial deposit. This is an amazing deal that you can’t miss so be sure to check it out and make yourself some extra cash. The cap for FanDuel is $35,000 with only one player at each position like a real MLB lineup (with the exception of outfielders where you can start any three players that are outfield eligible).

The scoring system for FanDuel    is as follows:

Batters: Single = 1pt, Double = 2pts, Triple = 3pts, Homerun = 4pts, RBI = 1pt, Run = 1pt, Walk = 1pt,
Stolen Base = 2pts, Hit By Pitch = 1, Out (calculated as at bats - hits) = -.25pt
Pitchers: Win  = 4pts, Earned Run = -1pt, Strike Out = 1pt, Innings Pitched = 1pt

My Good Value Plays

Pitcher
Matt Garza, Brewers, $6,300
: Garza has not pitched up to the caliber of player the Brewers thought they were getting when they signed him during the off season.  Garza has an ERA that is just south of five.  Fortunately Garza goes up against a Cubs offense that he dominated the last time he pitched against them.  The Cubs offense has been anemic all season long and Garza should have no issues dominating that weak lineup once again.

Catcher
Jason Castro, Astros, $3,100:
Despite only recording multiple hits twice in the last two weeks Castro makes for a good play tonight.  With Hector Noesi on the mound tonight Castro should have no shortage of RBI chances as Noesi has an ERA of 7.25 and a WHIP of 1.70 showing that he puts on plenty of base runners and lets most of them cross home plate.

First Base
Joe Mauer, Twins, $3,100:
Since coming back from an injury that forces him to miss nearly a week of games Mauer has been on fire at the plate.  With Trevor Plouffe finally heating up at the plate and with Mauer setting the table so well he should have no problem scoring runs and possibly getting a cheap RBI if the speedster Brian Dozier gets in scoring position for Mauer.

Second Base
DJ LeMahieu, Rockies, $2,500:
Not a powerful batter, LeMahieu is a hitter who makes consistent contact and gets on base enough to score a lot of runs in an extremely potent offense.  The Rockies are at home tonight where their offense is particularly efficient.  If LeMahieu gets on base he should have no problem scoring some runs, thus providing great value to your team.

Third Base
Juan Uribe, Dodgers, $2,900:
I could easily justify starting Uribe, for no other reason than he is going up against the leagues worst pitching staff in the Diamondbacks.  Uribe provides a little bit of everything but speed.  He hits for average (he’s batting .311), and shows some pop in his bat with four homeruns.  Despite his age Uribe has been one of the most consistent third baseman over the last couple of years and especially this season where a lot of third baseman have been up and down all season or just down as has been the case with Pablo Sandoval.

Short Stop
Jed Lowrie, Athletics, $3,100:
Lowrie has been a consistent contributor at the plate all season long.  Josh Tomlin has been solid in his two starts this year but Lowrie has been getting on base consistently the last couple of weeks.  In that powerful A’s offense Lowrie has all kinds of opportunity’s to score runs and drive them in as well.

Outfield
Alfonso Soriano, Yankees, $3,000:
While Soriano has been a liability in batting average to this point he has provided the power we are accustomed to seeing from him over  his career.  Playing in Yankee stadium provides a nice boost for Soriano as he could always get a cheap homerun to right field.  Always a bit of a streaky hitter, Soriano has multiple hits in two of his last four games and I expect his recent success at the plate to continue.
