Fantasy Baseball Profile: Avisail Garcia

The Chicago White Sox have big plans for the future, and outfielder Avisail Garcia is expected to be part of the team's core. After acquiring Garcia from the Detroit Tigers in a three-way blockbuster trade last season that also involved the Boston Red Sox, Chicago also acquired third baseman Matt Davidson and outfielder Adam Eaton from the Arizona Diamondbacks as well as first baseman Jose Abreu from Cuba.

Garcia will join these players and will likely hit in the fifth slot in the White Sox lineup, behind Abreu and Adam Dunn and in front of shortstop Alexei Ramirez.

In his short big league career so far, Garcia has hit very well. He was dubbed "mini-Miggy" in Detroit due to his resemblance to Tigers superstar Miguel Cabrera, and made quite the impact in late 2012, hitting .319 in his first 23 games of MLB action.

Last season, Garcia struggled with Detroit and only hit .241 as he was not a regular starter, but he ended up hitting .304 in his 42 games as the starting right fielder in Chicago.

This will be Garcia's first full season as a Major League starter, but he still has a lot of room to improve. He will be playing on a fairly weak White Sox lineup and may not have too many RBI opportunities hitting behind the strikeout- and home run-prone Dunn.

Garcia could be a decent late-round choice in your fantasy draft as a backup outfielder, but may start the season on your waiver wire. In AL-only leagues, he is probably too much of a reach to be taken in a draft; however, in mixed leagues, he could be taken as a backup.

If Garcia is not drafted in your league, monitor his progress with a keen eye. He could be a candidate for a breakout year, but that will likely happen in a year or two rather than now.

Season Projections: .268 average, 15 HR, 51 RBI, 3 SB, 56 R
