If it wasn't for a guy by the name of Derek Jeter playing in his final MLB season, there would be absolutely no reason for any other American League shortstop to have any All-Star votes than Alexei Ramirez of the Chicago White Sox.

In a season where he was expected to decline due to age, Ramirez is at the top of the leaderboards in nearly every single statistic among AL shortstops and is having the best season of his career at age 32. The career .279 hitter is batting at a .300 clip this season with seven home runs, 36 RBI and twelve steals. He has been even more valuable in the fantasy baseball world this season due to the lack of depth at the shortstop position.

If you have Ramirez, however, now is the right time to trade him. He has been great so far, but has dropped off significantly over the past two weeks. In that span of games, he is hitting only .226 and has put up goose eggs across the board in home runs, runs batted in AND stolen bases.

Plenty of these statistics came in games against struggling Detroit and San Francisco clubs as well as teams that lack good starting pitching in Baltimore and Minnesota.

While this may be just a slump, these past two weeks may be a sign of the inevitable regression to the mean for Ramirez. 

There are not too many good options to be the shortstop for your fantasy team, but if you can convince one of your oppnents that he/she needs Ramirez and his eye-popping stats, you may certainly be able to declare yourself a big-time winner in the trade department.
