Ignore the name, ignore the farewell tour, ignore the career stats. 

Fantasy baseball is about numbers, and how a player is performing, has performed, and will perform. Derek Jeter just is not worth a spot on your roster this year.

Currently, Jeter is hitting .255 with six runs scored and six runs batted in. He has zero home runs, and just four extra base hits. This year seems like it really is a farewell tour, not only to a wonderful career, but to his ability to play among the top short stops in the game.

Jeter has the same batting average as Lyle Overbay, but has less runs scored, home runs, runs batted in and stolen bases. Overbay has nearly half as many at-bats as Jeter, and is owned by almost no-one in fantasy baseball.

Among shortstops on most fantasy rosters this year, Jeter is 15th in batting average, 23rd in runs scored, tied for last in home runs, 22nd in total bases, 21st in runs batted in, and tied for last in stolen bases. 

Now, could Jeter be in a slump? Not really. Last season he hit .190 with one home run in just 63 at-bats. It's been two years since Jeter was a relevant fantasy shortstop, and since he is now 39 years old and still not 100% since missing nearly all of last season with two injuries, he is not reliable either.

It's time to drop Derek Jeter, which is sad because he will likely never be fantasy relevant again, given his intention to retire at the end of the season.

Jeter's projected fantasy value on eDraft's metric is a -7.03, or tenth-worst among all shorstops.
